– We put time, place and thought in perspective
Museum Odense is a state-recognized, self-governing museum organization that covers archeology, history, the poet H.C. Andersen and the composer Carl Nielsen. The museum was established in 1860.
Odense City Museums offer unique cultural experiences at the six museums and exhibition venues H.C. Andersens House and H.C. Andersen’s Childhood Home, the Funen Village, Møntergården – Museum about Odense and Funen, Carl Nielsen’s Childhood Home and Thriges Kraftcentral.
We aims to create experiences for the guests, arouse their curiosity and give them a new perspective on themselves and the world they live in.
We manage the archaeological responsibility for the municipalities of Odense, Nordfyn, Middelfart and Assens and supervise protected ancient monuments and dikes throughout Funen. We take care of a collection consisting of more than 400,000 objects from Funen’s antiquity, Odense’s history and H.C. Andersen and Carl Nielsen’s life and work.
Odense City Museums is a research museum and we use the research to reach new understandings of the past with relevance to the present.
