Museum Odense er en arbejdsplads, hvor kreativitet og faglig dygtighed går hånd i hånd. Her får du muligheden for at arbejde i en inspirerende atmosfære omgivet af historie og engagerede kolleger.
Would you like to help develop and unfold the national and international potential in the research and dissemination of Denmark’s greatest composer, Carl Nielsen?
Do you want to help make Museum Odense the international core hub for future Carl Nielsen studies – bringing the museum’s unique Carl Nielsen collection into play in new and eye-catching formats and contexts? Do you want to be the driving force in attracting a broader and more diverse audience to the award-winning, newly opened Carl Nielsen Museum?
Museum Odense is seeking a museum curator who, through a combination of research and dissemination skills in the field of music history, can realize these development potentials.
Carl Nielsen, together with his wife, sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, and author H.C. Andersen, constitutes one of three key artists represented in Museum Odense’s portfolio, each soon to be housed in their own distinguished, dedicated museum. These three subject areas are part of the same team at the museum, providing a solid foundation for interdisciplinary collaborations. Museum Odense also hosts an internationally recognized children and youth team, with which the Carl Nielsen team works closely.
In recent years the Carl Nielsen field of work under Museum Odense has undergone significant development. The award-winning Carl Nielsen Museum in the center of Odense is a true gem. Along with the composer’s charming childhood home in Nr. Lyndelse, south of Odense, and the engaging walking trail Carl Nielsen’s Camino, there is a strong foundation to elevate the Carl Nielsen area to the international level befitting his legacy. This effort is supported by close proximity to key partners such as the Southern Denmark Music Conservatory, ODEON Cultural Center, and Odense Symphony Orchestra.
The new Carl Nielsen curator will be tasked with unfolding the local, national, and international potential for engaging audiences through these frameworks, including the development of new and alternative communication formats and outreach to new target groups. Another key responsibility will be the continuous research-based updating of the subject area, in line with the work surrounding the museum’s two other featured artists. These areas already have strong academic foundations, including the establishment of the Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Centre (opened in early 2025) and the museum’s close collaboration with the Hans Christian Andersen Center at the University of Southern Denmark.
In addition to a high level of ambition and strong personal commitment we would like to see that your background and skills include:

Would you like to help strengthen and expand Museum Odense’s national and international position in the field of Hans Christian Andersen studies?
Are you eager to collaborate with internal and external partners to create relevant and contemporary interpretations of Hans Christian Andersen – both within the framework of H.C. Andersen’s House and beyond? Do you want to contribute to developing the museum’s research profile in the field of Hans Christian Andersen’s work?
Museum Odense is seeking a museum curator who, through a combination of research and communication skills within the field of literary history, can ensure the unfolding of the development potential within the Hans Christian Andersen area.
Hans Christian Andersen, together with the artist couple, composer Carl Nielsen and sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, forms one of three prominent artists in Museum Odense’s portfolio. With the forthcoming opening of a new big exhibition on Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen each soon to be represented by their own distinguished museum. The three subject areas are placed in the same team at the museum, providing a strong foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration. Museum Odense also includes an internationally recognized children’s and youth team, with which the Hans Christian Andersen team works in close partnership.
The Hans Christian Andersen field of work has developed significantly over recent years. H.C. Andersen’s House is a world-class museum – a total experience featuring new exhibitions, a children and youth universe, and world-class architecture. The museum is constantly renewing its formats for events and activities, both inside and outside its physical space, catering to both the popular and the niche. With the recent appointment of a PhD candidate and continued close partnership with the H.C. Andersen Center at the University of Southern Denmark, the museum’s already strong research profile in this field has been further reinforced. Over the coming years these efforts will continue to evolve with an even greater focus on international engagement.
The new Hans Christian Andersen curator will, together with the rest of the team, help to realize the large local, national, and international potential outlined above. A key responsibility will be to develop and implement new formats for communicating Hans Christian Andersen’s legacy, both within and beyond the museum’s framework, including through international projects. Another important task will be to contribute to the research-based development of the team and actively participate in collaborative research projects with universities and museums, both in Denmark and abroad.
We are looking for a candidate with strong personal commitment and ambition, and ideally the following qualifications:
